Make a beautiful Passover table!
An important part of Passover Seder is when the family opens the front door. As a sign of trusting in God’s protection you invite the prophet, Elijah, in. The Cup for Elijah is placed in the middle of the table.
Elijah’s cup would be poured but not drank.
When you reach the part of Elijah in the Haggadah, you fill the glass with wine.
I have created this unique hand-crafted ceramic plate and cup set will grace any Seder table.
The plate design resembles the shape of an ancient oil lamp and carries the image of the prophet Elijah ascending to heaven. The blessing on this plate reads: Blessed are You, O L-rd Our G-d, Ruler of The Universe, Creator of the Fruit of the Vine: Baruch Atah Adonai Eloheinu Melech Ha’olam Bor-ay Peri Ha’gafen. At the festive Passover Seder meal, it is a custom to place a glass with wine on the table inviting Elijah to visit. “…There appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, which parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.” (2 Kings 2:11)
